2017 Busan International Architectural Design Workshop It is our great pleasure to invite you to participate in the upcoming 2017 Busan International Architectural Design Workshop (BIADW) at Busan, Korea. Busan International Architectural Culture Festival (BIACF) offers an intensive international design workshop for the students from around the world. BIADW has been held annually during the summer since 2005. Students are invited to investigate a wide array of creative architectural and urban design approaches in the context of the 21st century urban culture. This year, BIADW will be held at Dong-eui University in Busan from July 31 to August 5. A post-workshop tour is scheduled following the six-days workshop program. The post-workshop tour will begin in the afternoon on August 5th and last for seven days. We welcome students to participate in both events. DESIGN THEME : Living in Busan: renewal of outdated dwellings DESIGN SITE : 29, Seongbuk-ro 22 beon-gil, Jwacheon-dong, Dong-gu, Busan, Korea ASSIGNMENT : Design and Planning for the Regeneration of Deteriorated Jwacheon Apartment SHORT HISTORY : The history of Busan makes the city a special place for architectural exploration. The city became a haven for refugees during the Korean War (1950-1953). The slums where the war refugees had settled had to be turned into decent living quarters. Jwacheon Apartment was one of the first-generation apartment buildings which precisely served this purpose. It was built in 1962 to house families displaced by the Korean War. It is located in Jwacheon-dong, one of the oldest (as old as “modern” can be) and densely populated areas in the city close to the port. PERIOD : July 31 (Monday) to August 5, 2017 (Saturday), (5 nights & 6 days) PARTICIPATION : Students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate schools in Korea and other countries. REGISTRATION FEE : 100 USD for overseas students; 100,000 KRW for domestic students. The fee covers accommodations, meals, and workshop materials. (Applicants are personally responsible for transportation expenses.) WORKSHOP PLACE : Department of Architecture, Engineering College, Dong-eui University, Busan, Korea. |
